This might or might not turn out to be an absolute hot mess, but I digress. Spoilers ahead! My aim for this is for the commentary to be short and sweet, considering the sheer amount of things I will be listing here, but I won't be going out of my way to avoid spoilers. It will all be formatted similiarly to my book log, because I quite like that layout. I will have the cover of whatever thing I am yapping about on the left, along with a rating, status and any other details, while my thoughts will be on the right.

I will attempt to list everything chronologically with the most recent things on top, because I think this will better show what I am currently enjoying.

Rating system is borrowed from Aid , who in turn got it from Yogo Magpie (inspired by aromanticduck)... Yeah, I know that was a long convoluted sentence, but I wanted to give credit where credit is due.

Nothing really wrong with it A few things wrong with it So many things wrong with it
Lots of awesome things 5 stars 4 stars (spicy) 3 stars (spicy)
A few awesome things 4 stars (bland) 3 stars (mild) 2 stars (spicy)
Nothing really awesome 3 stars (bland) 2 stars (bland) 1 star
How the system works

The idea is that you rate the thing on how much stuff you loved and how much stuff you hated, and those things weight against each other. There's only one way to get 5 stars or 1 star, so those should end up as the rarest ratings, wtih 3 stars being the most common.

'Spicy' means that the thing inspires emotion, whether positive or negative, while 'bland' means it doesn't affect you much either way.

An example of a 3-star (spicy) - for me personally - would be the Twilight series, because there's plenty of garbage in there but also some things that are like crack to me. I can't think of an example of a 3 star (bland) because by nature they don't stick in the mind.

(This also assumes giving 0 stars isn't allowed. That'd throw it out of whack...)

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Guys... I admit I actually did not play Silksong...

I watched my boyfriend play it.

But I still consider that I am allowed to add it to my media log. Sure, I didn't actually play it myself, but I was also locked in. Honestly, if I had played it myself I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much. Matter of fact I probably would have gotten a refund - I am absolute shit at games like this.

Definetly worth the long ass wait - you can honestly feel how much time, love and effort was put into this game. The world is so vibrant and so so so good. The NPCs were so lovable - I think my favourites have to be Sherma and Nuu (yes Nuu is a lil freak, but she is just a lil guy!). I also really liked the Bell Beast (I love my weird dog/horse/cat) and the fleas... oh my god the fleas. I need one as a plushie IMMEDIATELYYYY. I know my boyfriend absolutely hated the flea mini games, because he wanted to get the memento from beating a certain score, but... but I enjoyed watching them so much. Just... lil guys with their lil bell helmets. Especially the flea juggle - the way they flop when you drop them is just too cute.

My boyfriend 100%-ed the game on all fronts - got all the mementos, all the skills and items and such, got all of the endings. He still doesn't have all of the achievements though, he has to do a Steel Soul (so, hard mode) run, which... man, I really don't know how that would go - the game as it is is pretty hard. And he also needs to do the speedrunner achievements.

But yes. Good game. Can't wait till the next one releases in 2032/j

Dinner in America

This movie was soso hyped on social media about a year or so ago, and I finally watched it after a penpal of mine on Slowly told me it's her favourite movie.

Well... it was a movie, that's for sure!

I really did not know what to expect when I walked into this tbh. I was unpleasantly surprised when a slur was used not even 15 minutes into the movie. All of the characters were extremely vulgar, I don't think I really liked any of them to be honest. The story was okay, I suppose I liked it - I guess if you peeled back the vulgarity a bit (because, I admit, it was a bit too much for me), I suppose I actually might have really liked it.

I did like Patty's character development, and her relationship with Simon, in a way. I liked how he actually treated her like an adult, since literally all of the other characters infantilised and put her down. I appreciate the weird girl representation, and not in an "oooh im so quirky" "she's so craaazy, can't take her anywhere" way, but in a genuienly weird and strange way haha. The scene where they are in Simon's family's basement and recording the song was really nice, and I also liked how Patty joined a rriot girl band in the end - I think that was a really good way to show how she became a bit more confident by the end.

Thunderbolts*

I watched this after one of my best friends told me about it. It sounded like it would be right up my alley (I love a found family which consists of losers). Now, I am not a Marvel fan. Not at all actually. So believe me when I tell you I knew absolutely nothing about the characters beforehand. No, I didn't know anything about Bucky either.

It was a really good movie though. I really liked it! I enjoyed that there was actually a deeper premise to it all than "Oh supeheroes kick ass.". Sometimes the ass that needs to be kicked is depression. The scene after the group got their asses kicked by Bob, when they just all go their seperate ways, and Yelena tells her dad "Daddy, I'm so alone." hit a bit too close to home.

But uhhh yeah, nothing much else to say. I dunno if I will watch Avengers Doomsday. Maybe only because the Thunderbolts willl be there lol. Doomsday was teased in the after credits scene of The fantastic four: First steps, which was a shit movie, I am not going to lie, but morre thoughts on that in the log for it.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Only went to see this movie because some of my friends wanted to go... It was so bad... so so bad.

Not to sound like that one woke friend, but I have a very strong feeling that this movie was just a pronatal propaganda stunt...

Like... The whole movie was just focused on Sue's pregnancy and thte stupid baby. Like... they are having a stand off with the big evil guy and her water breaks. The villain says "Give me your baby and your planet will be safe".. Nuh huh, that baby is more important than the entire planet. And then when the public is protesting in front of their tower, because they are rightfully appaled, Sue goes out with the child and monologues about family. Just.. noooo....

And to top it off, when The Thing goes to visit his love interest the day before they go in space/the day before the villain comes to Earth (I don't remember which one it was) he ends up in a synagogue... Which, sure, it might just be that he is jewish, his love interest is jewish, but with the star of david plastered everywhere in the scene and with the current political climate in the world left me with a bit of a weird taste in my mouth. Especially considering how I already had the opinion that the movie is subtle propaganda in one way.

But anyways. I didn't like the story either. And the ending was awful. Of course someone dies and gets revived by the fucking baby! Of course! Just... ugh. The only good thing about the whole movie was getting to spend time with my friends.

Superman (2025)

As with many movies mentioned, I watched this because of someone else lol. My boyfriend was so excited about it, we even went to the premiere.

I came in with absolutely no expectations. I have been saying I am not a Marvel fan, but I am not a DC fan either - I am not into superheroes at all actually. And well... I was pleasantly surprised. I really really liked this movie. Starting even from the overall look of it - it was bright! The colors were vibrant, and I didn't really feel like I couldn't see shit because of how dark scenes were.

Yeah, I just really liked it. Hawk girl dropping knockoff Netanyahu from the sky was iconic. The whole message of the movie was amazing, and just uhh yeah

I have noticed that if I like something I don't have much to say about it, as opposed to when I don't and I have things to complain about...

Fullmetal Alchemist (2003)

"2003 is allergic to bad bitches."

I said what I said and I stand by it LMAOOO, more context in a second.

We watched this one after Brotherhood, so my opinion might be affected by that fact, but honestly - I really liked this version as well! I enjoyed the creative liberties which were taken where the manga could not help (since the manga was being made simultaniously). It isn't a faithful adaptation, but in my humble opinion, it can be considered a good kind of self-standing story. Yes, it's different, but that isn't bad. It's like the two cakes meme.

And as I said - some choices which were made were so so interesting to me, like the reason why humuncili exist in this version. I am a tad dissapointed we didn't get an explanation for all of them, but oh well

I have to say though this version was so much more dark and fucked up... I talked about Brotherhood with a friend who actually hasn't watched either version, and she was like "Oh yeah, I was wondering if I should watch it, but I have heard about that little girl and the dog and it sounds super traumatising." to which I tell her that the whole Nina thing wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (because I too knew what was going to happen prior to watching it). And really, in Brotherhood it's fine, it's not THAT bad.... The same can not be said about the 2003 version. Holy fucking shit the whole Tucker storyline was so messed up. And the way Nina died was... well.. Worse! I was NOT expecting it. Literally had me like:

But to elaborate on the "2003 is allergic to bad bitched" - no Olivier 💔 , Lust got killed after becoming one of my favourite characters, Roy got shot literally right after his coolest fucking scene (and in the stupidest way possible... whyyy did robo archer USE A NORMAL GUN? AND NOT HIS GUN ARM??? Which he literally used to shoot the normal gun???). And Spoiler for the movie - IZUMI ALSO DIES!

A star off for the last 3 episodes - They were OK. As I said - the whole Robot Archer thing was goofy as fuck. Like, it was a good idea in theory, but it was executed in such a goofy way. I'm fine with the ending being "bad" (Al being back in his old body, but with no memories and also he is a child again and also Ed being in a different universe, which is basically our universe in ww2). I don't think every story needs a "good" ending - some stories will leave you heartbroken and that's okay... but uhhh I just don't like fictional worlds mixing with the real world, if that makes sense? It's just not my jam. Like, I am fine with Modern AUs or whatever, but those are fun little fan things and usually not canon. I get what the idea was, and it is a cool "Oh what if the FMA universe focused on alchemy and science, which differentiates from our world which focused more on physics." but as I said - I just like my fiction being in it's own world.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Yes, sure, make fun of me for only just watching it, but like... I am literally so bad at watching shows. I put them off, pick them up and drop them, etc. Hooowever I don't have trouble watching things when it's with my boyfriend (who is watching it for like the fifth time)... so basically we binged it in like a week.

It was really good. I now understand the hype.

Honestly I am really bad at describing my opinion of shows haha, I am much better at talking about books.

But yeah, I liked it a lot. OPs slapped, story was great, characters were well written. We watched this one first, because, and I quote, "It's the better adaptation.", but I haven't read the manga so I can't speak on that.

I feel a bit dumb for literally only saying "It's really good.", but it like... literally is. I don't have any complaints, except maybe that the last 2 or 3 eps had me rewinding so much, because I was lowk so confused at times on what was going on... but this could also just be played off as me being tired since we watched it till like 4am.

I really like Samantha Shannon's Roots of Chaos series, so it really doesn't come as a surprise that I decided to read this one as well... This is the kind of prologue novella, so it's just a small lil thing - four chapters, under 100 pages. But it was good, nothing was really wrong with it. It helped me get into the world a little bit so I wouldn't feel as lost when starting the official first book of the series.

Dating & Dragons

A light fun read to cleanse my pallete after the previous book... It was okay, I suppose. I liked the other book from this "series" much more, since the stakes felt a bit more real, while in this one the stakes weren't really stakes - the main conflict was solved in like... a page. "One of the rules of the group is NO DATING amidst the group." "Oh but me and the love interest are dating..." "Oh then it's okay, the rule wasn't that serious ever anyways."

I wish the conflict was more about Quinn's trauma from her old friend group all turning against her and her trust issues because of it and stuff.
